Did you know that your iron needs will double during your pregnancy? That’s right, your iron needs double to accommodate your growing baby’s needs for oxygen as well as your oxygen needs, and to help you maintain a healthy immune system.

So how do you feel your body’s increased iron demands:

  • Take your prenatal vitamins regularly
  • Consume vitamin C rich food to help your body absorb iron more efficiently
  • Avoid drinking coffee and tea with your food as they can interfere with your body’s ability to absorb iron
  • Incorporate iron rich food in your diet like beef, chicken, tuna, shrimp, pork, spinach, potato, raisin, kidney beans, pumpkin seeds, or lentils
